Xaverian 6th Form College |
The Barlow RC High School is linked to a small number of Catholic parishes and primary schools in South Manchester. St Catherine’s is one of these, and all pupils at St Catherine’s Primary have priority in admission to The Barlow.
The Barlow RC High School is the top-performing Catholic high school in Manchester and part of the network of Catholic schools provided by Salford Diocese. When you visit you will find a well-ordered, respectful, caring environment with Christ at the heart of our school community; you will find confident students able to contribute to society as skilful, happy and respectful young people. You will also find both students and teachers aiming high to achieve some of the best academic results in Manchester.
The Barlow is a happy, secure place in which to learn and grow, incorporating service projects into the curriculum and teaching students the value of helping others. The Barlow is proud of our excellent pastoral care, strong relationships and the caring nature of our students who are aware of the importance of helping others. This is reflected in their enthusiastic involvement in voluntary projects and fundraising.
Key features of The Barlow as a Catholic school are assemblies, masses and prayer. Weekly assemblies help to develop the aims, attitudes and values of our school. Our Chaplaincy offers spiritual guidance to students and staff. Through the Chaplaincy, we provide help, support, encouragement and care to help ensure that The Barlow is a happy, spiritual place in which to learn and grow in faith.
At The Barlow, our aim is to develop the whole child; academically, morally, socially, spiritually and physically. A positive attitude to learning is required of our students who have a wide range of opportunities to develop and to achieve. Our dedicated staff is totally committed to ensuring that every child is happy, safe and secure, enjoys their education and achieves their full potential. Each child is challenged to achieve, and to surpass their academic targets. Students are expected to trust in their abilities and to strive to be the very best they can be.
At The Barlow, mutual respect and co-operation provide the foundation for a happy and successful school life. Our friendly and focused learning atmosphere is remarked upon by inspectors and visitors alike. We see our students flourish and move on to sixth forms and university or into work as confident, respectful young people who value opportunities to develop and to succeed. As the school motto states, “If you believe you can achieve!”
