St Catherine's CAFOD Group
The parish has a CAFOD group, which organises fundraising activity to contribute to the national charity’s diverse work fighting poverty in the developing world. It believes that all human beings have a right to dignity and respect and that the world’s resources are a gift to be shared by all people, whatever their nationality, race or religion.

A message from Christine Allen, CAFOD’s Director ‘We are extremely concerned about the impact that the Coronavirus could have in developing countries with fragile health systems, because it will be the vulnerable and marginalised who will pay the highest price. We are getting ready to reallocate funds to support the communities which are the poorest and hardest to reach. Thank you for the incredibly important role you play in support of our mission’
Our CAFOD group in the parish have recently begun a ‘Virtual Village’ initiative linked in with CAFOD World Gifts. The aim is to raise money to buy world gifts and help transform the lives of people in developing countries through CAFOD led programmes.
We joined the 9.30 Children’s Liturgy group to talk about the initiative, and the children and families were keen to participate. The children designed a wall hanging to show the dry and difficult conditions faced by local farmers and villagers in developing countries. They presented the wall hanging at the end of Mass on the First Sunday of Lent and took a collection afterwards. Almost £195 was raised. The children have decided to buy a cow as their first purchase for the ‘village’.
